About Me.
Cody Jaron Navarro is a filmmaker and Digital Cinema student at Utah Valley University, where he specializes in directing. Raised as the child of a military family, he spent his childhood moving between California, New York, Texas, and Utah. Constantly adapting to new places and people shaped not only his resilience but also his fascination with identity, memory, and the quiet moments that connect us.
Long before filmmaking, Cody found storytelling through creative writing, drawing, painting, journalism, and poetry. As a quiet child with an active imagination, he was always creating—first through short stories, then later through photography, where he developed an appreciation for observing humanity and the natural world. It wasn't until his senior year of high school, when he directed his first short film, The Thing in the Tunnel, that filmmaking entered the picture.
After studying Digital Media at Mountainland Technical College, Cody founded Cody Studios, a freelance photography and videography business specializing in nature photography and youth sports. He later enrolled at Utah Valley University as an English major before discovering the university's Film Program, where he realized cinema could unite every creative discipline he had pursued.
As a director, Cody's work blends poetic realism with surreal imagery, exploring the emotional lives of ordinary people through intimate, character-driven stories. His films often examine themes of grief, identity, loneliness, memory, and the desire to preserve moments that cannot be held onto. Whether grounded in reality or drifting into the surreal, his goal is to create films that linger with audiences long after the credits roll, inviting reflection rather than providing easy answers.
His work has screened at festivals including the Athens International Art Festival, Springville Art Showcase, LEGO's 25-Second Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Short Film Awards. His recent accolades include Best Sound at the 2026 July Athens International Art Festival, Best Soundtrack at the 2026 July Absurd Monthly Film Festival, Second Place in the 2026 UVU Philosophical Competition for FOX, and Semi-Finalist honors at the 2026 New York Script Awards for his screenplay Blanket of Ghosts.
